What is the frame actually made of?

Solid timber, plywood, particleboard and metal frames all age very differently over years of daily use, especially in our humid climate. A sofa or bed frame built on solid hardwood, or a properly engineered plywood core, will usually outlast one built on particleboard, which tends to weaken at the joints and screw points under repeated stress. Ask to see or feel the frame if you can, and don't hesitate to ask staff directly. A team that knows their furniture should be able to explain the construction without missing a beat.

What's inside the cushioning?

For sofas and mattresses, what's inside matters a lot more than the fabric you see. High-density foam holds its shape for years, while cheaper, low-density foam can go flat within a couple of seasons of daily use. Ask what density or grade of foam is used, and press down firmly on a display piece to see how quickly it bounces back.

Questions About Fit and Function

Will it actually fit through my door, corridor and lift?

This is the one Singapore buyers forget most. A sofa that looks perfectly reasonable in a big showroom can turn into an impossible puzzle at your own front door. Measure your doorway width, corridor turns, staircase landings and lift interior before you shop, and bring those numbers with you.

Does this piece suit how my household actually lives?

A glass-top coffee table looks great in photos but might not be practical with young kids around. A deep sectional sofa could easily dominate a smaller HDB living room. Ask yourself, and ask the sales consultant, whether the piece actually fits your household: how many people, whether you have pets, how often you entertain, and how you use the space day to day.

Materials don't all age the same way in our climate. Some leathers feel tacky without steady air conditioning, some fabrics hold onto moisture and odour more than others, and untreated wood can warp or grow mould if ventilation isn't great. Ask specifically how the piece performs in local conditions, not just what's printed on the spec sheet.

What does after-sales support actually look like?

A warranty only matters if it's easy to actually use. Ask what's covered, for how long, and what really happens if a seam comes loose or a mechanism jams. A retailer that answers this plainly, without dodging the question, is usually one that stands behind what it sells.

What is the realistic delivery and lead time?

Custom and made-to-order pieces can take weeks to arrive. If you're moving into a new BTO or working to a renovation schedule, ask for a realistic delivery window in writing rather than a verbal guess, and find out upfront what happens if things run late.
