What Your Furniture Delivery Team Wishes You Knew Before Delivery Day

What Actually Slows A Delivery Down

Ask any delivery crew what really eats into their time and it's almost never the furniture itself. It's something that could have been sorted out the day before. A few minutes of prep on your end can turn a twenty minute delivery into a two hour one, or the other way round.

Clear The Path Before The Truck Even Arrives

Corridors, lift lobbies, and the stretch from your front door to wherever the furniture is headed need to be free of shoes, bicycles, and anything else lying around. Older HDB blocks tend to have narrower corridors to begin with, and shared spaces cluttered with other residents' things make it genuinely hard to move anything large through.

Sort Out Your Lift Booking First

A lot of HDB blocks and condos need the service lift booked ahead for large deliveries, and some limit delivery hours altogether. Skip this step and a team can turn up ready to work and simply not be able to bring anything upstairs, through no fault of their own. Check with your management office before you lock in a delivery slot.

The Access Points Matter As Much As The Room

A sofa that fits your living room with room to spare can still refuse to pass through your front door, around a stairwell bend, or into a lift. Doorway widths, lift interior dimensions, and any tight corners along the way all count just as much as the size of the room. Work this out before you buy, not on the morning the truck shows up.

What Actually Needs Measuring

  • Main door and bedroom door widths and heights
  • Lift interior dimensions, if the piece has to go up by lift
  • Staircase turns and landing widths, for landed homes or walk up units
  • Clearance around fixed obstacles like pillars or built in cabinetry

Have Someone Home Who Can Actually Decide Things

Delivery teams often need a quick call on where something finally sits: which wall, which way it faces, whether it gets assembled in the room or out in the corridor first. Someone on hand who can answer these on the spot keeps things moving, instead of the crew standing around waiting on a phone call to someone who isn't even there.

Protect Your Own Flooring

Just finished a renovation, or fussy about your floors? Say so when you book, and think about laying protective sheeting down yourself before the team arrives. Most crews carry basic protection with them, but nobody knows your flooring better than you do.

Deal With The Old Furniture First

If new furniture is replacing something already sitting in that room, decide beforehand whether the old piece gets thrown out, moved elsewhere in the flat, or given away. Delivery crews usually aren't set up to handle disposal on the spot, and old furniture left in the way is one of the most common reasons a delivery drags on.

Get Clear On Assembly Before The Day Arrives

Not every delivery comes with full assembly, and what a customer expects doesn't always match what's actually been arranged. Confirm ahead of time whether your pieces arrive fully assembled, partly assembled, or flat packed for you to put together, and roughly how long assembly should take on site. That way you won't end up watching a crew pack up and leave while you were expecting them to build the wardrobe right there.

Stay Reachable

If your delivery window is a wide one, keeping your phone or WhatsApp handy means the team can give you a sharper heads up as they get closer, instead of you sitting at home all day waiting on a vague time slot.

A Smooth Delivery Is Decided The Day Before, Not The Day Of

Most delivery hiccups come down to something that could have been prepared ahead of time. Order through Nova Furnishing and our team will walk you through the access requirements specific to your building type before delivery day. A few minutes of your own preparation still goes a long way.

Not sure what your unit type needs? Reach out to our showroom team or drop us a message on WhatsApp before you book your slot.
