How to Care for a Sintered Stone Dining Table: Do's and Don'ts

Singapore has no shortage of dining table options, and sintered stone has become one of the most asked-about choices in our showroom lately. It's tough, it's easy to keep clean, and it looks sharp in almost any home. Before you commit to one, though, it helps to know how to care for it properly and how to get the sizing right for your space. That's what this guide covers.

Getting the Dimensions Right

In many Singapore homes, the dining area shares its footprint with the living room, so getting your measurements right before you shop really does matter. As a rule of thumb, allow at least 60cm per person along the table's edge, and keep 80 to 100cm of clearance between the table and the nearest wall or furniture so chairs can be pulled out comfortably.

For a standard 4-room BTO, a table that seats 4 to 6 is usually the most practical fit. If your dining area runs narrow, a pedestal-base table lets you tuck chairs in fully in a way a four-leg design often can't manage.

Choosing the Right Table Shape

• Rectangular: the most flexible option, sits well against a wall, and makes the most of your seating. Works especially well in the narrower dining areas common in HDB flats.
• Round: softer and more intimate, with no sharp corners to work around. A good fit for square-shaped dining spaces and homes with young children.
• Oval: a generous surface with softer lines than a rectangle. Suits medium-sized rooms nicely.
• Extendable: handy for festive gatherings during CNY, Hari Raya and Deepavali, while staying compact for everyday use.

Pairing Chairs With Your Table

Chair height and table height need to work together for the meal to actually be comfortable. Standard table height sits around 73 to 76cm, with a seat height of 43 to 48cm, and getting that combination right makes a real difference over a long meal.

In a tighter space, armless chairs tuck under the table more completely. If you host often, it's worth having a couple of stackable or foldable chairs on hand for extra guests.
