Starting With the Frame, Not the Fabric

It's tempting to judge a piece of furniture by its fabric or its surface finish, but the frame underneath is what decides how long it actually lasts. For sofas and armchairs, we look for kiln-dried hardwood or engineered plywood frames with proper corner blocking, joints that are screwed rather than just stapled. For dining tables and cabinets, we check how the panels are joined and whether the load-bearing points are reinforced. A frame that flexes or creaks in the shop within its first year is a frame that won't survive a child climbing on it at home.

Climate Testing, Not Just Style Testing

Singapore's year-round heat, with humidity that regularly sits above 70 or 80 percent, is brutal on furniture. Wood swells and warps, adhesives soften, and some foams break down far faster than a manufacturer's spec sheet (written for a temperate market) would ever suggest. A spec sheet only tells you so much, which is why our team physically tests sample units before committing to a wider order. We sit on sofas for long stretches to see how the cushioning recovers. We open and close wardrobe doors and drawer runners over and over, listening for the first signs of wear. We check how dining chairs hold up under sustained weight. We also think about what a piece goes through just getting to your home: out of a factory container, through a warehouse, up a lift, down a narrow corridor. That journey alone puts more strain on furniture than most people realise.

Beyond materials, we think hard about proportions. A sectional that looks striking in a spacious showroom vignette can easily swallow a typical HDB living room. A wardrobe with beautiful hinged doors might be impossible to open fully in a bedroom where clearance is tight.
